IDRT Researcher, Dr. Jooho Kim, publishes two articles

Date

Dr. Jooho Kim’s latest publications highlight the expanding research of the Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas into critical areas such as tornado evacuation analytics and emergency water distribution systems (e.g., Point of Distributions). In his article published in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), titled “An Agent-Based Modeling Approach to Protective Action Decision-Related Travel during Tornado Warnings, Dr. Kim explores how individuals make decisions regarding evacuation and travel during tornado warnings. The research offers new insights into improving safety protocols and emergency response strategies.

In another significant contribution, Dr. Kim’s article in the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, titled Emergency Water Distribution Systems to Improve Spatial Equality and Spatial Equity in a Heterogeneous Community with Differing Mobility Characteristics, focuses on developing emergency water distribution systems that address the diverse needs of communities with varying levels of mobility as well as socioeconomic status. This research emphasizes the importance of spatial equity in disaster response, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive essential resources in times of crisis.

These publications represent the institute’s commitment to advancing disaster resilience research, and we’re excited to see where it leads!
